Aluminium is an element.
Aluminium has one type of atom. Pure metals have one type of atom. Bronze and brass are non-ferrous alloys. Steel and invar are examples of ferrous alloys. Some alloys are ferrous and some are non-ferrous. Oxygen has only one type of atom, so it is an element. Aluminium is a pure metal: it has only aluminium atoms. Oxygen and hydrogen are elements, so they have one type of atom. Pure metals are chemical elements but most industrial metalls are alloys. _________________________________________________________
A¹B Elements have only one type of atom whereas compounds have more than one type.
A\B Iron is one of the substances in steel, so steel is a ferrous metal.
A=B Copper and zinc are pure metals: they have only one type of atom. Copper and zinc are pure metals; i.e. they have only one type of atom.
